Innkeeper

Position Overview and Description

 

The Innkeeper will take part in the daily operation and maintenance of Serenity Inns. He will work along with the treatment team and residents. Must be communicative, willing to ask questions, provide information, make suggestions, and resolve issues with the goal of continuously improving effectiveness and results. Must be open to new challenges and growth opportunities, and be willing to participate actively and constructively with all members of the Serenity Inns team. The first 6-months on the job will be a trial period after which the Serenity Inns Board reserves the right to extend or not to extend an offer of permanent employment. Innkeepers are subject to semi-annual job performance evaluations.

*Please note: Solicitation (sales, trading money with residents or volunteers) will result in dismissal from the organization, and misuse of Serenity Inn computers for personal use and/or social media platforms may also result in dismissal.

    • Effectively utilize and maintain Serenity Inn facility documents and property (daily logs, resident reports, sign-out sheets, keys, etc.)

    • Supervise and monitor chores performed by residents

    • Adhere to professional standards and maintain amicable working relationships

    • Support organizational values by adhering to program and personnel policies in a teamwork environment

    • Assume responsibility for the following:

      • Daily rounds

      • Weekly room checks

      • Enforcing curfew and mandatory bag checks of incoming residents

      • Assist addiction counselors with drug tests and the computer data entry associated with drug testing

    Dinner Fellowship Duties:

    • Participate actively in and monitor resident behavior during dinner fellowship

    • Walk through the dinner fellowship area prior to dinner fellowship to make sure the trash is taken out, countertops are clean, coffee is turned off, etc.

    • Monitor residents to see that all residents are downstairs and ready for dinner fellowship by 5 p.m.

    • Check to see that all resident cell phones are left in the basket in the living room

    • Encourage in a professional manner that every resident participate in the evening’s question.

    • Be prepared to divert the conversation over dinner when topics such as sex, politics, and religion are introduced.

    • Monitor residents as they start their chores after dinner “to avoid resident cluster.”

    • Be respectful of time limitations so that guests realize that residents have groups and other obligations after dinner.

    • Treat all residents with respect and dignity.

    • Do not sign documents without the Executive Director’s prior authorization. Place any requests made that evening on the Executive Director’s desk.

    • Report to the Executive Director any changes with dinner fellowship that guests may suggest for the next month.

    • Adheres to Professional Standards and Maintains Healthy Boundaries

    • Always maintains consistent enforcement of organizational policies

    • Always maintains professional conduct – toward residents, other staff, and any volunteers

    • Maintains healthy and appropriate boundaries with residents and other staff members, especially relating to former residents

  • A. Education

    • Must be proficient in reading, writing, basic math, and keyboarding/computers

    B. Experience & Knowledge

    • One year of successful work with AODA and the 12-step program is helpful

    C. Basic Computer Skills Required

    D. Physical Requirements:

    • The duties of this job require talking, hearing, walking, sitting, and the use of hands to handle or feel and reach. It occasionally requires standing. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Maintenance Manager

Position Overview and Description

 

The Maintenance Manager is a part-time role responsible for the upkeep of our two buildings. The position reports to the Director of Programs and Facilities. 

  • ● Work with the Director of Programs and Facilities, along with the Property Committee, to accomplish the long-term maintenance plan, yearly and long-term budgets for the Inn and Alumni House.

    ● Update, as necessary, the written program for routine maintenance, care, protection and repair of the buildings.

    ● Update, as necessary, the safety plan for the buildings to meet City building and fire codes.

    ● On a regularly scheduled basis, conduct proper and thorough safety checks of the buildings per the routine maintenance program checklist.

    ● Perform repairs and maintenance as required by the maintenance program or as needed.

    ● Maintain a secure storage area for tools and material and oversee the keys, key fobs and security monitoring systems.

    ● Conduct relations with repair contractors in a professional manner and maintain the list of approved repair contractors and suppliers.

    ● Work with the Milwaukee City Inspectors in connection with their required inspections and assure compliance with the inspectors’ requirements and requests. Answer the Inspectors’ requests in writing and maintain a log of all correspondence with them.

    ● Ensure that permits are pulled by the contractors or volunteers for all work for which a permit is required.

    ● Maintain the system for the recording of maintenance requests and record the corrective actions taken.

    ● Meet periodically with the Property Committee as requested by the Director of Programs and Facilities, to discuss the overall needs of the buildings.

    ● Support the volunteers who periodically help in the maintenance of the buildings.

    ● Perform other maintenance duties as directed by the Director of Programs and Facilities.

    ● Submit expense reimbursement requests for approval by the Director of Programs and Facilities for the costs of material, supplies and other out of pocket expenses incurred and paid for the Maintenance Manager.

  • Working knowledge, experience and skills needed to perform basic maintenance and repairs to the following: 

    ○ basic building structure 

    ○ gas 

    ○ electric 

    ○ sewer 

    ○ water 

    ○ plumbing

    ○ furnace

    ○ A/C 

    ○ household appliances 

    ● Valid Wisconsin driver’s license. 

    ● Computer skills: Google docs, MS Word, Excel

    ● Knowledge of City Codes and which maintenance and repairs will require City permits.

    ● Physical strength and stamina to do the work and operate required equipment.

    ● Self-motivated; able to see what needs to be done and get it taken care of.

    ● Strong interpersonal skills, courteous and helpful attitude toward staff, vendors, volunteers and residents. 

    ● Flexible schedule; available for off hours emergency calls as required.
